As the year unfolds, it’s important to think about creating new habits and rituals for your sales team. Sales meetings can be time-consuming and unproductive if not run effectively, but by implementing a few simple guidelines, you can make them more productive and engaging for your team.
One of the most effective ways to improve sales meetings is to establish agreements that all team members must follow. These agreements should be clearly communicated and reinforced at the beginning of each meeting. Some examples of agreements that you could implement include:
100% participation
Being on time
Encouraging questions and actively listening to feedback
Creating a positive and fun atmosphere
No distractions such as mobile phones or other electronic devices
It’s also important to set strict time limits for meetings, this will help keep the meetings on track and ensure that all important topics are covered. Additionally, clear communication and goal-setting are crucial to the success of sales meetings. This will keep team members focused and motivated throughout the meeting.
In summary, by implementing simple agreements and guidelines for your sales team, you can make meetings more productive and engaging for your team. Encourage participation, set strict time limits, and create a positive and fun atmosphere in your meetings. And remember to always encourage clear communication and goal-setting.

Over the festive holidays, I talked with a young salesperson selling hardware out of a super DIY store. His job is to be on the road most days, visiting building sites and converting builders, plumbers and such like into customers.
As we got talking, I asked him, “What is your biggest frustration with your job right now.”
Well, he said, “Writing up the orders” I laughed for a bit, but he didn’t. He was genuine, which was the most frustrating part of his job.
The truth is that productivity is very critical to your success. I explained that if he could not do it himself or found it hard, he better find someone who could help him.
Share the load
Productivity is so critical to your success. I wanted to make sure he saw this. I explained to him as far as I’m concerned, you MUST be doing this to increase your productivity, no matter how small or large your business is.
What is it?
Get someone else to do it… Outsource it.
I knew a top biller on a TV network that outsourced everything except his one-to-one, face-to-face appointments.
Here are 3 tips to get you thinking about how to share the load and focus on what you’re good at.
Spend more time on what you love about your sales job – Many salespeople do not like to do the paperwork. Get someone to do it for you. It’s that simple. Doing up contracts and such like can be taught to someone.
Stop wasting time on time-consuming tasks – Very similar to #1. If you dread doing something in your work, then that’s a signal to delegate it. I learnt that a little while ago, and it is so true if you’re about to do something you do not want to do, guess what happens? You procrastinate. So, therefore delegate it.
Have more free time to spend with your friends and family – We all want time with our friends and family, don’t we? Outsourcing the tasks that free up spare time potentially allows you to be happy and organised. Do you want that?
As the year unfolds and you think about your workload, maybe also think about what you dread everyday and delegate.
Whatever career you choose, getting help is always good.

In our first article on goals for 2022, I talked about overcoming the obstacles that prevent you from accomplishing those goals.
In this article, I will talk about spending time each day to help you stay on track and chunk down the activity you devote to achieving your goals.
Do you know that every day you can create an hour to help fulfil your goals and keep you on track?
The answer is “start” each day a little earlier than your fellow workers.
And plan tomorrow today…
One of my early mentors and previous partners at NRS Media, Brian Duffy, taught me this valuable tip.
Plan Tomorrow Today – I first met Brian when he was a consultant to one of the first media companies I worked for.
He would always sit me down on his visits and ask me this simple question:
“Have you set goals for what you are going to achieve tomorrow? More importantly, have you considered what you have achieved today and congratulated yourself?”
This piece of advice has stayed with me to this day. Most days, I plan what I will do the next day using this simple method.
At the end of each day, I review what I have achieved, taking about 30 seconds to pat myself on the back mentally.
Even if I only managed to complete a couple of tasks, this simple exercise gave me a sense of achievement. If you don’t do this, you honestly feel you have achieved nothing.
Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Every day is a path to the appreciation of self.
I then look at what I have not been able to achieve due to timing and other factors and place them on my plan for the following day. No judgments.
I then review all the meetings and appointments and place them on my plan for the following day.
Finally, I take about 10 minutes to study my priorities for the month, quarter and year. I select 3-4 goals I want to achieve as soon as I return to my office that are in alignment with these goals.
It works for me; it just might be the tonic for you.
Have fun selling your stuff in 2023.

Six Obstacles Preventing You from Achieving Your Goals at Media Sales (Part 2)
In my last post, I talked about what I thought might be obstacles to achieving my goals for the past 12 months.
Here they are again.
The goal might have been too much of a stretch.
I did not give myself a realistic time to achieve it.
I did not allocate the right time and resources to make it happen.
I was not committed emotionally to it.
I did not WORK AT IT WITH THE SAME PASSION AS THE ONES I ACHIEVED.
I did not monitor it.
I hope to set big goals using these solutions by changing my mindset a little this year.
The goal might have been too much of a stretch – Maybe it’s just working out a way to simplify it. Instead of saying, “I’m going to generate 50% more in sales for 2023”, why not say “, 25% in first 6 months, balance for the rest of the year.” It’s perhaps just as simple as chunking it down.
I did not give myself a realistic time to achieve it – I set up small time frames, I might have expected to achieve it sooner, and when I realized that I did not have a show of getting it, perhaps I should have stopped and re-evaluated it.
I did not allocate the right time and resources to make it happen. Set time aside to work on that specific goal. Even if it is only an hour at a time.
I was not committed emotionally to it – get involved; if you are not committed, then it’s not a goal; it’s a wish.
I did not WORK AT THE GOAL WITH THE SAME PASSION AS THE ONES I DID ACHIEVE- This is where you chunk it down if your goal is to have 5 new clients a month and you are finding that challenging, then scope it back to 2.
I did not monitor it- Keep a journal. I got a great tip from an article I read on running up a journal of what you do each week. Just a summary. I use these headings –What I am grateful for, What opportunities I see- What I did- What I will do that week.
In my next article, I will talk about my one-hour-a-day idea.
Until then.

I used to be like that, but then I stopped doing the stuff that everyone else did and stopped vomiting over my clients and telling them how wonderful I was. I changed my own game.

Six Obstacles Preventing You from Achieving Your Goals in 2023.
As the year begins, I want to talk about the “thing” that gets in the way of you achieving your goals.
The holiday break is a great time to reflect on my achievements for the year and look towards the next 12 months.
Once I go through the goals I have achieved and assess where my success came from, I go about setting new goals for the coming year.
I make sure that I pat myself on the back and congratulate myself for the goals I have achieved.
Whenever I do this, the question always comes up “How come I achieved some goals while others were not?”
They were all important to me, or I would not have written them down in the first place.
No matter how much I tried to reach those goals, for some reason, they eluded me.
What did I learn?
The goal might have been too much of a stretch.
I did not give myself a realistic time to achieve it.
I did not allocate the right time and resources to make it happen.
I was not committed emotionally to it.
I did not WORK AT IT WITH THE SAME PASSION AS THE ONES I ACHIEVED.
I did not monitor it.
In my next article, I hope to give you some of the solutions to help overcome these obstacles to get you off to a good start in 2023.
